Podłączanie SPINa to komputera PC

nazgee — ndz., 09/06/2009 - 00:38

Co zrobić gdy obrazki w SPINie przestaną się nam podobać? Przede wszystkim nie należy rozpaczać. O ile tylko natchnienie pozwoli, do SPINa można wgrać dowolne obrazki. Aby to zrobić urządzenie trzeba najpierw podłączyć do PCta. Oto kilka kroków jakie należy w tym celu podjąć.

1. what you'll need1. what you'll need
At first make sure that you have all the things you'll need to get things working. First of all, you'll need both parts of spin module, and ribbon wire to connect them. Two AA batteries are also a must, as SPIN need's external power source (it cannot be powered from PC). Last but not least - make sure your PC has RS232 port and SpinEdit iinstalled and working.

2. batteries2. batteries
Second step concerns batteries, but before you'll do anything with them - disconnect ribbon wire froma one of the boards. Then you can install batteries, minding correct polarity (there is a picture at the board, so you should not get get it wrong). SPIN won't fire up at this point, as it needs two batteries to work.

3. BOOT button3. BOOT button
On one of the boards there is a button. Usually it is used to change the image you'll want SPIN to display, but that's not always the case. Will use this button to tell SPIN, that it should not display images as usually, but that we want to load some images into it.

4. power it up, while holdin the BOOT button4. power it up, while holdin the BOOT button
Now is the hard (ha ha) part - you'll have to connect both boards, while holding the BOOT button. If you'll do it right, the first thing SPIN is going to notice after getting powered up, is that BOOT button is being pressed. If button is pressed at SPIN startup, it will try to get images from PC.
If SPIN blinks it's diodes after you've connected the boards together, it means, that it works normally and is going to display images (BEEP! cool, but not what we want now!). If nothing blinks, it means that SPIN is waiting for PC, and everything is fine (or that you've forgotten batteries, dummy).

5. connect RS232 port5. connect RS232 port
Finally- connect the RS232 cable to SPIN's port. You can't do it wrong, or connect other cable, so I'm not going to break this step into pieces. You can do it! :)

6. you're done6. you're done
If you've made it to here, it means everything is going to be fine. Just launch SpinEdit application (if you haven't done it so far), and upload new images with it.
